[BLOG] 10 Poor, but bold and courageous, girls of Korean dramas

A while back, we showed you all 11 things that always show up in Korean dramas. One of the most popular you guys saw was the recurring rich boy, poor girl theme. Since you’ve already seen the top 10 millionaire ‘bad boys.’ Now, here are 10 poor, but spunky, girls in Korean dramas. They lived hard lifes but overcame their struggles to become some of our favorite Korean dramas.

10. Miss A’s Suzy as Go Hye Mi in Dream High

Hye Mi didn’t have a lot of struggles compared to others on this list, but she did have her lifestyle changed. When he dad got into debt, she was forced to give up her prestigious training to be an opera singer and had to live with someone who was a near stranger. In the end, with hard work she was able to live out her dreams.

9. Choi Jung Won as Jin Pal Gang in Pick the Stars

Also known as Stars Falling from the Sky or Wish Upon a Star, this drama wasn’t very popular, but the main character Pal Gang is the epitome of this poor girl concept. After her parent’s sudden deaths, she was forced to give up her superficial lifestyle and care for her 5 younger siblings. In the end she became successful and lived happily with her family.

8. Shin Minah as Mi Ho in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

Miho wasn’t really poor in the same sense as the rest of ladies on this list, but was rather just naïve and unknowledgeable about this world. And that was because, well… she wasn’t a human, but a nine-tailed fox living in the world. With the help of Cha Dae Woong (played by Lee Seunggi), she found a happy life.

7. Jung So Min as Oh Han Ni in Playful Kiss

Living for years having a one-sided crush, Oh Han Ni was known for being clumsy and not very bright. When an earthquake struck her house, she was forced to live in the house of her father’s old friend, only to find out her crush Baek Seung Jo (Kim Hyun Joong) lived there. After studying hard, she was able to enter a college and eventually find love.

6. Kim Sunah as Kim Sam Soon in My Lovely Sam Soon

One day Sam Soon found herself in deep debt to pay for her mother’s house. She then found a job as a pastry chef for a rude man, Hyun Jin Heon (Hyun Bin). After her perseverance and hard work, she payed off the debts and lived happily.

5. Song Hye Kyo as Han Ji Eun in Full House

After being tricked and having her house sold without her knowledge, Ji Eun finds out that it was sold to actor Lee Young Jae (played by Rain). The two then enter a contract relationship so she can stay in her house. As time goes on, they realize they have feelings for each other.

4. Yoon Eun Hye as Go Eun Chan in Coffee Prince

Go Eun Chan lived a hard life, working multiple jobs to pay off debt and even giving up a feminine image. She then bumped into Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo), a rich heir. Thinking she was male, he hired her to be his fake gay lover to avoid arranged dates. He eventually gave her a job as a ‘Coffee Prince’ in the café he opened. As the drama progressed, Han Kyul begins to see Eun Hye as more than just his worker.

3. Park Min Young as Kim Na Na in City Hunter

After a shady car ‘accident’ killed her mother and put her father in a coma, Kim Na Na worked hard to provide for herself, eventually becoming a bodyguard at the Blue House. Throughout her time on the job, she encounters various challenges, even getting shot. Even her relationship with Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Minho) was rocky, with him having to decide whether to be with her or to forget her to try to protect her.

2. Gu Hye Sun as Geum Jan Di in Boys Over Flowers

While living as a poor girl, whose family runs a dry cleaning business, Geum Jan Di’s life changes when she suddenly gets into the exclusive Shinhwa Highschool. She meets the notorious leader of the F4, Go Joon Pyo (Lee Minho) and faces many difficult situations. She overcomes and works hard to live a good life.

1. Ha Ji Won as Gil Ra Im in Secret Garden

Living out her job of being a stunt woman, Gil Ra Im still faces much difficulty in life, living poorly and also having her father die during her younger years. When she meets the snobby Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin), her life is changed even more. The two even accidentally swap bodies, and both lives are flipped upside down.

So, who’s your favorite fierce and spunky girl? Who else should have made this list? :)
